General Description
Cool season, perennial bunchgrass Stems few-bunched, 20–60 cm. Leaves: blades 4–6 mm wide, flat and ascending; sheaths with overlapping margins; ligule membranous. Inflorescence a contracted to open panicle, drooping to erect, 4–8 cm long. Spikelets ovoid, 2-flowered, 5.5–6 mm long; glumes enveloping the florets, distal portion purplish. Lemmas 2 per spikelet, awned from near the middle; rachilla hairs long; palea enclosed in floret. Disarticulation above the glumes; unit of dispersal the floret (Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012.
