General Description
Stems 10–50 cm. Leaves: blades 5–12 mm wide; sheaths usually hairy at throat; ligule 1–1.5 mm long. Inflorescence an erect to nodding spike-like panicle 5–13 cm long, sterile bristles 4–7 mm long, retrorsely barbed. Spikelets 2–2.5 mm long. Lemmas reticulately veined but not conspicuously transversely corrugated (Lavin in Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
