Rhizomatous. Stems erect, terete, 10–40 cm, sometimes tufted. Leaves basal and cauline; blades flat or channeled, up to 1 mm wide; auricles rounded. Inflorescence open with 5–60 pedicellate flowers; main bract shorter or longer than the inflorescence. Flowers with prophylls; tepals purplish, 2–2.5 mm long, rounded, hood-like, inner shorter and wider; stamens 6. Capsules 2–3 mm long, exserted, rounded to the beak; seeds without appendages (
