General Description
Rhizomatous. Stems erect, 4–25 cm, loosely tufted. Leaves: basal bladeless; cauline blades 1–2 mm wide. Inflorescence of 3 to 8 spikes in a dense ovoid cluster; lowest bract inconspicuous. Spikes sessile, similar, ascending, ovoid; 4–7 mm long; male flowers above the few female. Perigynia ascending, ovate, brown, glabrous, 2.5–3.5 mm long tapered to an indistinct serrulate beak 0.5–1 mm long; stigmas 2. Female scales ovate, apiculate, dark brown with hyaline margins, hiding the perigynia. Achene 2-sided, filling the perigynium (

Lesica (2012) treats this as the species
Carex eleocharis L.H. Bailey.
