General Description
Plants cespitose or short-rhizomed. Leaf blades 1.5-6 mm wide. Upper spikelets of inflorescence sometimes clustered, lateral generally purple, the sides more or less deeply jagged, the tip tapered. Pistillate floral bract dark purplse, midstripe generally less than 0.2 mm wide, generally not to tip; tip acute. Perigynium ascending, 3-4.5 mm long, 0.9-1.5 mm wide, mostly purple, more or less stalked, the body more or less filled by the fruit (Mastrogiuseppe, 1993, The Jepson Manual).
