Long-rhizomatous. Stems erect to ascending, 3–20 cm. Leaves mainly basal; blades ca. 0.5 mm wide. Inflorescence a solitary bractless spike. Spike ovoid, 6–15 mm long; male flowers above female (sometimes all female). Perigynia spreading to reflexed at maturity, glabrous, narrowly ovoid, ribbed, 2.5–4 mm long, dark brown, with a distinct, curved, entire beak ca. 0.5 mm long; stigmas 2.
