General Description
Taprooted, short-lived perennial. Stems erect, usually simple, 30–120 cm, hirsute. Leaves narrowly ovate, serrate, 4–11 cm long, hirsute. Inflorescence of 1 to few spikes; bracts 4–6 mm long. Flowers: calyx 4–5 mm long, hirsute; corolla blue to purple, 6–9 mm long, the limb 7–11 mm across, puberulent at the center; style ca. twice as long as the ovary. Nutlets 2–3 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
