General Description
Tree 5–20 m with ascending branches, spreading by horizontal roots. Bark white, smooth, becoming gray below. Leaf blades 3–5 cm long, ovate with a rounded tip, coarsely sinuate, cordate-based, green above, white-tomentose below. Female catkins 2–8 cm long, densely flowered. Capsules 3–5 mm long; seeds usually not maturing (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Range Comments
Introduced throughout much of temperate North America; native to Eurasia (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
