General Description
Plants annual or short-lived perennial. Stems erect, 10–60 cm with mostly glabrous foliage. Basal leaf blades orbiculate, 1–4 cm long with scalloped margins. Flowers with petals ca. 2 mm long, shorter than the glabrous, deciduous sepals. Achenes glabrous, ca. 1.5 mm long with a curved beak <0.2 mm long; head globose, 3–6 mm high (Lesica et al. 2012. Moist soil of open, often deciduous woodlands, thickets, frequently in riparian areas; plains, valleys, montane (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Ecology
POLLINATORS
The following animal species have been reported as pollinators of this plant species or its genus where their geographic ranges overlap: Bombus auricomus, Bombus bifarius, Bombus nevadensis, and Bombus bimaculatus (Macior 1968, Thorp et al. 1983).
