General Description
Plants: Perennial, acaulescent, rhizomatous herbs 10-30 cm.

Leaves: All basal, petiolate; blades 2-10 cm long, leathery, oblanceolate with wavy entire margins, sparsely farinose.

Inflorescence: A terminal panicle bearing secund 2-flowered spikelets.

Habitat

Reproductive Characteristics
Flowers: Perfect, regular hypogynous; calyx 5-7 mm long, purple-ribbed, obconic with white lobes; corolla tubular, about 4 mm long; petals beige, united at the base; stamens 5; styles 5; ovary superior, 1-celled.

Fruit: A 1-seeded, inflated achene about 5 mm long.
