General Description
Taprooted, cushion-forming. Stems ascending to erect, 1–3 cm, tangled-villous. Leaves closely overlapping, stiff, lanceolate, 2–4 mm long, tangled-villous, white-margined. Flowers solitary; calyx wooly-villous, 3–6 mm long with flat intercostal membranes; corolla white to bluish, the tube 4–10 mm long, lobes 2–4 mm long; style 2–5 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Habitat
Often gravelly, calcareous soil of rock outcrops, exposed ridges and slopes in sagebrush steppe, grasslands, open forest; valleys, montane (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Ecology
POLLINATORS
The following animal species have been reported as pollinators of this plant species or its genus where their geographic ranges overlap: Bombus vagans, Bombus flavifrons, Bombus melanopygus, Bombus pensylvanicus, Bombus bimaculatus, Bombus griseocollis, Bombus impatiens, and Bombus kirbiellus (Shaw and Taylor 1986, Colla and Dumesh 2010).
