General Description
Monoecious, glabrous perennial. Stems erect, simple below the inflorescence, 15–50 cm. Leaf blades elliptic to ovate, 4–20 cm long. Inflorescence 8–25 cm long, a narrow, leafy-bracted panicle with whorls of 10 to 20 flowers. Flowers unisexual; outer tepals 1–2 mm long. Fruit 5–8 mm long; inner tepals orbicular, cordate-based, only 1 with a callosity. Achenes brown, 3–4 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
