General Description
Perennial with hispid foliage. Stems usually simple, 30–70 cm. Leaves petiolate, to 30 cm long; blades entire or lobed. Flowers long-stalked, solitary from upper leaf axils; petals orange to red, ca. 5 cm long. Capsules glabrous, glaucous, globose to ovoid, 15–25 mm long (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX). Lesica (2012: 105) believes that MT specimens of P. rhoeas are referable to P. orientale.
