General Description
Annual herbs. Stems glandular-pubescent, trailing to ascending, 5–20 cm long. Leaf blades ovate, 15–40 mm long, glabrous with ciliate margins. Inflorescence axillary, pedunculate clusters subtended by 5 separate, ovate involucral bracts 4–6 mm long. Flowers with a white, corolla-like, tubular calyx, ca.10 mm long with 5 flaring, bilobed lobes; stamens 5, included; style included; stigma linear. Fruit ellipsoid, scabrous, 1–2 cm long; the achene completely surrounded by the 3 membranous, veiny wings (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Range Comments
In MT from the Yellowstone region sporadically east to Valley and Custer counties (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX); ND, WY, UT, CO, NV, AZ, NM, TX, KS (S1), NE (S1), and AB.

Habitat
Sandy soil of grasslands, river terraces; plains, valleys (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
