Widely, though sporadically distributed across Montana. Usually not abundant where found.
 
General Description
Annual. Stems simple or branched, brittle, 5–35 cm, puberulent. Leaves 1–7 cm long; the blade lanceolate, sometimes shallowly lobed below to entire and sessile above. Flowers yellow with ovate bracts, diurnal; sepals ca. 2 mm long; petals 5, obovate, 3–5 mm long. Capsule cylindric, ca. 1 cm long; seeds minutely papillose under 20X with grooved angles, pendulous in 1 column (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Sparsely vegetated, often sandy or gravelly soil of grasslands, steppe, open forest; valleys (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Ecology
POLLINATORS
