State Rank Reason (see State Rank above)
Pediomelum cuspidatum has not been documented in Montana. Since at least 1966 some Botanists have felt that Pediomelum cuspidatum could be in Montana because it is present in neighboring South Dakota (Booth 1966; McGregor et al. 1986). The Flora of Montana (Booth 1966) included Psoralea cuspidata and stated "plains and hills", yet placed no county dot on the Montana map. Its listing was the basis for its inclusion in the Vascular Plants of Montana (Dorn 1984). Recent observations provided to the MTNHP were tracked and determined to likely be the result of observers using a botanical flora written for South Dakota. While there is potential for it to occur in Montana, a conservation status rank is not applicable (SNA) because the plant has not been documented in our State.
