General Description
Root mostly with a simple crown. Stems erect, 20–50 cm, branched above. Herbage glabrous Leaves with 5 to 9 oblong leaflets 5–20 mm long with rounded to emarginate tips. Spikes dense, tubular, 1–5 cm long. Flowers white; calyx tube ca. 2 mm long, glabrous; sepals ca. 1 mm long, ciliate; petals 3–7 mm long; stamens 5. Legume glabrate, 3–4 mm long, exserted from the calyx (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Our plants are variety oligophylla (Torr.) Shinners.
