General Description
Pubescent perennial from a simple or branched caudex. Stems simple, 10–40 cm. Leaves: basal oblanceolate, 7–15 cm long; cauline lanceolate, 1–12 cm long. Inflorescence spike-like with 3 to 6 glandular, congested cymes. Flowers: calyx campanulate, 10-veined, 12–18 mm long; petals white, the blade 2–8 mm long, 2–4-lobed with 2 appendages; styles 3. Capsules ellipsoid, equaling the calyx, opening by 6 to 8 slits. Grassland, steppe, open forest; montane (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).

Our plants are subspecies hallii (S. Watson) C.L. Hitchc. & Maguire.
