General Description
Annuals up to 35 cm tall; short glandular-pubescent above; stems single or branching from base. Leaves mostly lanceolate to narrowly elliptic or oblanceolate, the lower ones sometimes ovate to obovate, 5-30 mm long. Flowers in compact to open dichasial cymes (or rarely solitary), typically clustered at tips of branches. Sepals lanceolate, 3-4.5 mm long, glandular or glabrate, herbaceous or narrowly scarious-margined; petals shorter than to twice as long as sepals or absent. Capsules 6-12 mm long, straight or upcurved (adapted from: Larson, 1986, in Flora of the Great Plains).

WA, OR and NV east to MI, VA, south to AZ, TX and GA (Kartesz in prep. 2012).
