Uncommon in Montana, though many of the known collections describe the species as being locally common and the high elevation, rocky, baren habitat generally does not appear to be at risk.
 
General Description
Perennial with a branched caudex. Stems: flowering stems erect, 5–15 cm; short sterile stems 1–3 cm. Herbage villous, hispid. Leaves petiolate, 1–3 cm long; basal and sterile stem leaves spatulate; cauline leaves oblanceolate. Inflorescence short, leafy-bracteate below. Flowers: calyx hispid, puberulent, 5–6 mm long in fruit; corolla 3–5 mm long; fornices yellow. Nutlets 3 or 4, lance-ovate, obscurely ridged dorsally, smooth ventrally, 3–4 mm long; scar long, barely open at the base (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press.
