General Description
Root globose. Stems 20–100 cm. Herbage sparsely hirsute, punctate. Leaf blades oblanceolate, 1–15 cm long, becoming linear above. Involucres hemispheric, 10–15 mm high; phyllaries in 3 to 5 series, oblong, scarious-margined, purple-tipped. Disk flowers 30 to 70; corolla 5–7 mm long. Achenes 5–7 mm long; pappus barbed (Lesica et al. 2012. Manual of Montana Vascular Plants. BRIT Press. Fort Worth, TX).
