Diagnostic Characteristics
Subspecies rucinata can be distinguished from others by the following combination of characters: Phyllaries lanceloate, usually stipitate-glandular or finely glandular-hispid; leaves 0.5–3.5 cm wide, margins remotely toothed or serrate, or pinnately lobed, or entire, the tips of the teeth not (or barely) white-tippped (Bogler, 2003, Fl. North America).

Range Comments
Western Canada, Rocky Mountains, sporadically in Great Basin, western and northern Great Plains (Kartesz 2009).

Habitat
Moist meadows, low wet areas, swales, bogs; 400–2700 m (Bogler 2003).
