Diagnostic Characteristics
This subspecies is distinguished by others by its perennial growth form, pubescent herbage, heigth of 25 cm or less, a spicate inflorescence, and involucres 3-4 mm long.
Range Comments
Subspecies borealis has a boreal distribution south sporadically to AZ and NM, but is most common in the Colorado Rockies (Kartesz 2009).
