Rare in the Pacific Northwest (McCune and Goward 2009); Infrequently collected in Montana and adjacent states.
 
General Description
Thallus foliose and somewhat appressed to substrate; upper surface gray, pale blue gray, white, or brownish when exposed to sun; lower surface black and abundantly rhizinate; soredia coarsely granular to isidiate, mostly marginal, and soredia yellowish; and rhizines simple or dichotomous McCune and Geiser 2009. Chemistry: Medulla K+ yellow to red McCune and Geiser 2009.
