A Mousetail Moss - Myurella tenerrima
General Description
Plants: Pleurocarpous (Vitt 1988), threadlike (FNA 2014), small and in mats, light- to yellow-green. Stems about 10 mm long, frequently branched, the shoot with its appressed leaves resembling a slightly loose catkin (Lawton 1971).
Leaves: Stem leaves upright to spreading, loosely overlapping, round to broadly ovate, 0.3-0.4 mm long (FNA 2014), mostly longer than wide, greatly concave, acuminate to apiculate (Lawton 1971); the apiculous often recurved (FNA 2014); the base rounded; margins flat or incurved, smooth to serrulate from protruding cell ends; costa lacking or weak (Lawton 1971).
Leaf Cells: Laminal cells rhomboidal; distal laminal cells with one tiny papilla per cell on the abaxial (outer-facing) surface; alar cells not distinctive (FNA 2014).

Habitat
Fens, rock fissures, tundra grasslands (FNA 2014), and moist, calcareous habitats at high elevations (Elliott 2016).
Reproductive Characteristics
Capsule cylindric (FNA 2014), upright to a little inclined, smooth when dry, the neck short and creased (Lawton 1971). Capsules seldom produced (Lawton 1971).
