General Description
Species sexually dimorphic. Males have dark blue back, while their flanks, face, and throat are black; the lower part of underparts white. Females greenish-gray in color with a distinguishable white wing spot; also white stripe under wing.

Habitat
During migration, species prefers forest edges, riparian woodlands, and other well-vegetated habitats, including parks and gardens. Species breeds in undisturbed deciduous/coniferous forests.

Food Habits
Diet consists of mostly insects; during winter, feeds on berries and fruit.

Reproductive Characteristics
One, two, or occassionally three broods per season; 4 eggs per brood. Incubation period 12 to 13 days. Nests usually built in shrubs or small trees.
