The Vermilion Flycatcher breeds in southeastern California, southern Arizona, southern New Mexico, and west-central Texas (Sibley 2014). This species is a year-round resident throughout all but the northernmost portion of its breeding range (Ellison et al. 2009). In Montana, the Vermilion Flycatcher has a single historic winter record (Montana Bird Distribution Committee 2012).
